Hi there
This important so im thinking i should ask the experts.
I have 2 Servers in my main office (1=DC and 1=File server) i also have 6 other locations connected by 512/512 wan connection with DCs in each.
I need a good software solution that will cover all avenues.
I have been using windows backup but i am not confident, i had a dissaster early in my IT career and have not trusted it since then, maybe it was my error.
So any help would be great

Hi donhodge,

It that case, I would recommend only Symantec Backupexec. Think version 12 is out now and is by far the leading backup software out there.

Cheers.

Backup exec is pretty good;
So is CA arcserve both have the same functionality, so I would suggest that you check them out and see which you feel most comfortable with;
If the ammount of data from the remote sites is substantial, it will take a while ove your wan link, so it might be worthwhile backing up to the local sites (either to disk or to tape drives, depending on your budget)
Also look at symantec's system restore and acronis trueimage for disaster recovery backups - these take an image of a machine which can be updated regularly, and allow you to restore to a new machine (if, for example, a server dies you can dump the image onto a new one with minimal downtime)
Best practice is to run a combination of these, as with backup exec and arcserve you would still need to set up a new server and then restore the data.
Hope this helps you
