Showing thumbnail alt text in various browsers

How can I view thumbnail alt text in browsers such as Safari, Firefox and Opera.
A website I've designed shows titles of images in Internet Explorer as Hover Tooltips.
Surely there's a preference which can be turned on or off so the same can be done in the above mentioned browsers.
Thank you.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Be sure to use both the "alt" and "title" tags for your mouseover information.  See here for more details:

I understand the difference between how IE and the other major browsers treat this but the 'title' isn't important enough for me to add to several dozen images in various galleries to make it show as a mouseover in the other browsers. Thanks for the info
