I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

do you have a firewall in the network? connection refused could due to

- no server listening on the remote system
- wrong remote ip address
- firewall denying connections

There could be a number of possibilities...

1) Make sure iptables is not blocking the outbound connection (i.e. 'iptables -L')
2) Make sure ntpd or xntpd is up and running on the server (i.e. 'ps -aef | grep ntp')
3) Is your gateway and DNS seend correctly? (i.e. 'netstat -r', 'cat /etc/resolv.conf')
