CFC componnet and the cfsetting tag in coldFusion

I keep getting an error saying:
The request has exceeded the allowable time limit Tag: CFQUERY
whenever I use a certain cfc component

Can you tell me how I can get around this error?

I have tried adding a line to the very top saying:
 <cfsetting requesttimeout="36000">

but that through an error saying:
Invalid CFML construct found on line 4 at column 1.
ColdFusion was looking at the following text:

The CFML compiler was processing:

< marks the beginning of a ColdFusion tag.Did you mean LT or LTE?

that error almost always means you're missing a double quote

look for that or post the code around line 4

please post some code

You are not putting your <cfsettings> inside <cfquery> tag , are you? It's supposed to be at the top of the page.

Hey guys

thanks for your contribution.  Based on your comments I paid attention to where I was putting the line.  Apparently placing it above cfcomponent was what was causing the error.
