How do i get a large amount of text & table imported from excel to Indesign?

I have a directory of real estate listing's on an excel spreadsheet. Our printer uses Indesign to place the information onto our brochures. The proofing system we have is a nightmare and I rather do it myself. What do I need to know about Indesign to learn how to import all that data & tables from an excel spreadsheet and be able to go back to it at any time to update changes to text & tables?

You can just cut and paste from word/excel to indesign but there are 2 catches; When you import (place) a word doc it does not link, so that if the word doc is updated, the indesign doc isn't (by default). To change the import behavior to link to the word doc you should click Edit>Preferences (PC) or InDesign>Preferences (Mac) then in the Type category check Create Links When Placing Text and Spreadsheet files.
Also, when copy/pasting you have control over whether formatting travels with the copied data, or just the raw data gets pasted without formatting; You'll find control over that feature under Preferences > Clipboard Handling > When Pasting Text and Tables (All Info/Text Only).
