Vista backup hangs at "looking for backup devices"

When I try to get in to change my backup settings, the program gets hung up. Under "Back up files or your entire computer" I click "Change settings." The next window has a "Change backup settings" option. I click that and the "looking for backup devices" window takes over. And it never gets beyond this point.
The current backup settings are for a Terastation NAS to which I have a mapped drive. Vista does not seem to have any trouble running the current backup settings to that location--why should it hang when I'm trying to change those settings? What's the solution?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Interesting--I reconnected a USB external HDD to the Terastation that I've been using to make copies of things on the Terastation and immediately the problem with the Vista backup connection went away.

I'm guessing some sort of problem with properly unmounting the USB drive. I'll have to get with Buffalo and see if they have an answer.
