Configuring ASA

I have some familiarity with the PIX PDM. I need to know how to configure the ASA.

1. Does ASA have something like PDM, and how do I get into it?

2. How do I set up telnet and SSH?

3. How do I set up transparent mode?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Here is how you do it from the CLI. The PDM should be accessible by going to http://192.168.1.1 by default I believe. Do you have console access with Hyper Terminal? You can check all the setting before you make any of the changes below.

firewall transparent
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 (change to your liking)

username yourusername password secret password

ssh

aaa authentication ssh console LOCAL
crypto key generate rsa modulus modulus_size (512, 768, 1024, or 2048)
ssh host ip 255.255.255.255 inside

telnet

telnet host ip 255.255.255.255 inside
passwd secretpassword

I use putty for hyperterminal. It works out better

When I telnet/SSH in what is the username/password?

I showed you how to create the username and password above.

telnet does not use a username just a password

I meant to use hyperterminal to go in through the console port on the firewall.
