Windows Live Messenger 8.5 goes double

At one point Messenger 8.5 would load two copies, one not completely though and freeze, but mostly even if it loaded when I started a video call with my friend at one point before his video a second window would come up, my picture would freeze, while hearing each other.
Also the main window would go blank every now or then. (White in the inside).
Yesterday I upgraded to IE 7 thinking that I may have allowed a registry cleaner to butcher IE figuring I was'nt
using it anyway...
But today I say a double window for a few seconds, so I believe that the doubling issue is still there.
I will be uninstallin Bitdefender 2009 tomorrow, I upgraded lately and it is a bugridden piece of junk, I have 5 months left from my subscription, can't wait to dump it. That always can be a culprit too.
Thanks,
George

Do you have your live messenger auto-start when machine start up?

Try "start"->"run" ->"msconfig" under "startup" tab untick windows live messenger.

Then try this link to change setting under windows messenger to stop it poping up when start up.

http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-stop-Windows-Live-Messenger-from-popping-up/

Now you really stop windows messenger from startup. You can try restart your machine and open your windows messenger manaully and see if it create two copies....

Good luck.

Hi,
I had it autostart - I tried your suggestion and as soon as I started a video call with my friend the second chat window popped up and the whole damn thing froze up as usual. So no difference.

Hi gyurika,

Have you try to reinstall it? Try that and see if it works.

Otherwise i suggest you download the latest version 9.0

http://download.live.com/messenger

It works perfectly for me.

Hi,
Got rid of Bitdefender, Uninstalled Msn 8.5 and installed 9 beta as per your tip..
The only difference is, that instead of freezing and struggling with a double window, the moment I click on the start video chat I get a this application encountered a problem.error message window up, It then opens a second window, but that is really a post mortem, while the first one half disintegrates, bits of it remaining on the screen after program closes on termination, like you have thrown acid in it....
I have also (around the time this started) updated my nvidia display driver so the culprit could be deeper... But its just a computer, so there should be an explanation somewhere...

Apparently the event viewer states that the fault is in the msgswcam.dll
???
