exchange queue folder is corrupt

I've got an exchange 2003 server running but since last night i don't receive any e-mail.
I found out that the queue folder is corrupt. Eventviewer:
Virtual Server 1: The specified mail queue directory is not valid. Cannot start the SMTP Service.

I tried stopping the smtp service and renaming the folder. I still get the message: the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

Any ideas?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Are you running AV software?

If so, check it and make sure that you exclude the \exchsrvr directories, and \system32\inetsrv from the scan.

Also exclude the M: drive.

Also while SMTP is stopped rename Queue folder and create a new Queue folder then start SMTP service again.

But yes you need to check the AV exclusion as already told by Mr-Madcowz.
