where can i find a list of illustrators prefrence files and their locations on a mac?

Where can I find a list of Adobe Illustrators prefrence files and where they are located.  Illustrator is no longer opening files for one student on their account.  So i think if i trash the prefrence files it might help.

I was not able to locate a adobe illustrator settings folder.  I read that it should be in users/local/library/prefrences .   I went to users and  and there was no local folder.
Try this:
 Mac OSX:

Users>~username>Library>Preferences>Adobe Illustrator CS Settings>Adobe Illustrator Prefs

If manually deleting this file, ensure Illustrator is closed first.

With Illustrator CS and later, it is also possible to delete the preferences by holding down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT(Win)/Shift+Option+Command(Mac) whilst starting the application and responding 'Yes' when prompted (but you do have to be really quick to do so - if the Splash screen displays, Illustrator has beaten you to it)

so i tried the shift option command before issultrator starts up to try and delete the prefrences, but nothing happened.  I tried it about 3 or 4 times.  I was fast about it.   a def hit the keys before the splash screen appears.
Yeah, I know sometimes that doesn't work - I don't know why that was ever implemented. Did you try the manual route and delete the preferences.
