"Not read"-Notfication - Entourage 2004 with Exchange 2003

We are using Small Business Server 2003.  Next to about 20 PC-Clients there are two Entourage-Users running Office 2004 on Mac OS 10.5.5.

The following issue is annoying:

whenever a user using Outlook sends a message to a Mac-User, he will receive strange and false notifications, if he requested a "read-notification".
The Mac-User will read the message, a read-notification will not be sent.  I don't mind that.  If the Mac-User later decides to delete the message, the sender will receive notification, that his message has been deleted without having been read.
The customer in question is a french company and their german subsidary.  The mesage title will be in French AND in German.

I would like to know if I have a chance to do something about this other than telling the people in france not to ask for a read-notification.
Also:  Does anyone know if this issue still exists with Entourage 2008?
