Exchange sending out old messages from 2006.  Any ideas?

There have been a handful of e-mails here recently that have been received by either clients, or external people that are from 2006.   Now being 2008 you can see how that might be a problem.   Why would MS Exchange on a 2003 server be resending, or sending messages from 2006 at this time?   I am at a loss trying to figure this one out.  Any ideas?

i would start with message tracking to try to get some details on the messages.

Already tracked the messages,  not much to go on,  anything in specific that I need to be looking for that would point to a problem.   I dont think that would explain why they are just now getting sent out or resent either.   I am open to suggestions
