Microsoft Exchange HTTP Virtual Server Instance - IsAlive Failed.

Is there anything in particular that can be checked for this error to arise which causes a cluster failover?

For what it's worth I have seen AV's cause this error - NOD32 and McAfee in particular - don't ask me why but when I removed them it worked fine.
The check in question simply makes an HTTP connection OR the relevant server - if the connection fails then the cluster will fail over. Have you checked the cluster.log file?
Things like limiting the max connections to the web server could cause this, or the web server running slow and not responding to the keep-alive check in a timely manner.
You can un-check the Affect the Group box to not make it fail-over - but this may not be the cause of it and it will still fail-over anyway.
enable IIS logging and check the logs for the same time fail-over occurs - you could also enable perfmon logging and check these.
There must be something slowing the web server down so checking the logs is really the only way forward initially.
