how do I remove The number unread emails displayed after an archive has been restored?

A user was recently deleted and recreated on our Novell network. I archived his mailbox, ran the fidedit and restored the archive to the new mailbox.  The inbox now shows [6] unread emails. When you go into the inbox there are no unread emails. I have done a find on all emails in the mailbox and selected them all and marked them as read. The inbox still displays [6] unread emails

You can perhaps trying running a GWCheck Contents and Fix problems and see if that will do the trick.  I've seen that before but don't remember any specific fixes.

Have you tried to highlight the entire mailbox and then right click and choose "Mark Read"?

There are a number of TID's on this   http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/10056056.htm
Most involve archiving the mail, recreating the mailbox and restoring from archive.  This sounds like what you did.

Can you try an advanced find on the mailbox?  Click on the magnifying glass and in the dialog, click Advanced Find.  Then in the first drop down box, click Item Status.  In the operator click the Does Not Include and in the next drop down click Opened and then click OK.

How many messages, if any appear in the search results?
