Windows Vista Defender Error Code 0x8024400d

Recently I installed Vista Ultimate.
Everything worked fine 'till few weeks ago.
I cannot update Windows Defender.
Keep getting this Error Code 0x8024400d.

Other than that, update and other Vista features work fine.

Anybody know how to eliminate this error Code and do the regular update?

I wear a lot of hats...

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Windows Update 0x80004002 and 0x8024400D Fix

As with the latest trend that seems to plague Microsoft, they seem to keep breaking their own things. Windows XP SP3 is no exclusion to this, from massive reboot errors, to the less subtle breaking of Windows Update. Also, apparently, SP3 breaks Windows Live Installer's ability to install their products as well.. all with the incredibly detailed error message. "Windows Update failed because there is a problem on your computer" .. and that's it. Well, here is a fix.

Press Start, then Run.

Type in REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL and hit enter, you'll get a little popup saying DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded.

Repeat that step for these below..

REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL
REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL
REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL

Then try Windows Update again.. it should work.

LeeTutor,

Must add that I've already surfed the net for the solution...and did try what you suggested, but that didn't help.
Anyway, some of the files could not load on my machine:

REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL (ok)
REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL      x failed to load
REGSVR32 ATL.DLL (ok))
REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL      x failed to load
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL (ok)
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL (ok)
REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL      x failed to load

Well, after several weeks, and almost giving up on this subject, after some 17 automatic updates today, this problem of mine has been resolved.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure what update did do the job :(
