Lenovo t61 freezes when trying to open windows components, even in safe mode.

I have a Lenovo T61 with XP sp3, it boots up fine then when I try to open say, control panel or internet explorer it freezes on me. Then when I try booting into safe mode the same thing happens. any suggestions?

    I suggest that you first make sure the Internet Explorer Error Reporting Tool is enabled, to get more info about the problem:

    Try starting Internet Explorer without addons, it might be some of them:

    Runs IE7 without any add-ons. You will get this warning:

    All Internet Explorer add-ons, such as ActiveX controls or toolbars, are turned off. Some webpages might not display correctly.

    This one can be used with with a URL:

    iexplore -extoff

    in IE6, you may disable any suspicious addons from the Internet Options -> Programs tab -> Manage addons button.
