w2k server printer driver

Client has Windows 2000 server SP4. Trying to print to an XP machine with HP4050TN via shared printer on the XP. Server finds printer but cannot find a suitable printer driver for w2k server. Downloaded different drivers from HP (w2k and xp) but not the right inf file. Any other compatible printer drivers that may work?

HP4050 has been around a while.  You need a windows 2000 driver.
Try installing the 2000 driver as an alternate driver on the XP machine. or
This is a network capable printer.   Why not just set up a direct queue on the 2000 server?

The windows 2000 driver does not work. Windows 2000 server says wrong driver. The w2k and xp driver are the same. The network port on the printer is bad as that is how it was connected before. The printer is now set up as lpt1 on the xp machine. the server sees it under network printers and when it tries to load the right driver pcl5 or 6, it produces and error about incompatible driver.  Would an HP4 driver work or should I just try and see if that will work? .  Dan
No go on universal printer drtiver. XP and 2000 4050 driver are the same. When server goes to install 4050tn it says driver is incompatible even if loaded on the XP machine. Will see about replacing the network card in the 4050TN as that should solve the problem.
