laptop keyboard generates random characters

After joining domain, can't enter user id or password because keyboard generates random characters. accepting local logion info starts OS and keyboard works fine after that. A hihglited EN is present on my login box.

Sounds like a group policy is forcing the keyboard to another keyboard setup when logging into the Domain.
This link shows something like this in win2000 for reference.

I determined which keys I needed to use to enter the correct password. After successfully logging in once, the problem has disappeared.

So was it a different keyboard layout when logging into the domain?

Not sure I understand the question, but the problem has diappeared and I won't be able to re-create it so I'm moving on. Thanks for taking the time to help.
