Ho to grant access to  a developer to run sql profiler (sql2005)?  
what type of access he has to have on the SQL ?

it shouldnt be sysadmin as far as i remember.. thats a case in sql 2000

You're right ... in SQL 2005, there's a more granular way:
GRANT ALTER TRACE TO John
