I am having some problems configuring my Linksys RV042 VPN router. &nbsp;I am trying to create a VPN tunnel so that I can remotely connect to my office PC from home. &nbsp;I am using the QuickVPN client that was included.<br />

Here are the steps I have completed <br />
1. group VPN tunnel configured on the router as per the instructions.<br />
2. Created a Userid and password<br />
3. exported and imported the client certificate onto my home machine.<br />
4. Installed the QuickVPN client<br />
<br />
after following the instructions provided, I am still unable to connect to the rv042 via QuickVPN. &nbsp;I get the following message.<br />
<br />
&quot;The remote gateway is not responding. Do you want to wait?<br />

after following the instructions provided, I am still unable to connect to the rv042 via QuickVPN.  I get the following message.

"The remote gateway is not responding. Do you want to wait?

Lnksys RV042 VPN error message.

A virtual private network (VPN) is a network that uses a public telecommunication infrastructure, such as the Internet, to provide remote offices or travelling users access to a central organizational network securely. VPNs encapsulate data transfers using secure cryptographic methods and other security mechanisms to ensure that only authorized users can access the network and that the data cannot be intercepted.

Networking hardware includes the physical devices facilitating the use of a computer network. Typically, networking hardware includes gateways, routers, network bridges, modems, wireless access points, networking cables, line drivers, switches, hubs, and repeaters. But it also includes hybrid network devices such as multilayer switches, protocol converters, bridge routers, proxy servers, firewalls, network address translators, multiplexers, network interface controllers, wireless network interface controllers, ISDN terminal adapters and other related hardware.

The most familiar type of routers are home and small office cable or DSL routers that simply pass data, such as web pages, email, IM, and videos between computers and the Internet. More sophisticated routers, such as enterprise routers, connect large business or ISP networks up to the powerful core routers that forward data at high speed along the optical fiber lines of the Internet backbone. Though routers are typically dedicated hardware devices, use of software-based routers has grown increasingly common.
