Need to be able to extract the dumpster from a set of mailboxes for legal reasons.

We have about 80 Mailboxes that I need to be able to export to *.PST the Dumpster Items for about 80 peoples Mailboxes on Exchange 2003 SP2..

Anyone Know of a Tool That will Extract the Dumpster items in Exchange Mailbox.

Dwlinder,

You can extract the emails present inside the dumpster into a PST with the help of EXMerge Utility.

http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/ExMerge-Recover-Mailbox.html

If you only want to extract emails from dumpster and not from the entire mailbox then in the "Fig.2" in the above URL, click on 'Options' button and then choose the option which suggests to extract only from Dumpster (Last option).

You could download Exmerge tool from the following link

http://www.petri.co.il/download_exmerge.htm

Let me know if this does not help.

From what I have seen EXMERGE will not get the Dumpster data.

Have you had it work ?

Thanks,
David
Once when you have checked the option "Items from Dumpster" in the 'Data' tab, it will definitely fetch the data from the dumpster.

In the below URL check from page number 418. This will give you a better idea about how you mush go about getting this done.

I have run the EXmerge Tool and it does get some of the items in the dumpster but not 100% all of them many of them will not go to the PST file when it runs because Exmerge encounters and says

Error copying message with subject XXXXXXXXXX   in folder '\Deleted Items'.   (MAPI_W_PARTIAL_COMPLETION)       so I  can not get all of them unless I find out this error is.

Thanks so much
David

David,

* Have you got any Antivirus program running on your box? Disable that and then try exmerging.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328642

* Have you got any brick level backups configured? Such issues are also caused due to improper use of backup methods...always better to avoid it.
* You could try to disconnect that mailbox and reconnect it back using the cleanup agent in ESM.
*Go to AD, Right click on the user in question>Exchange tasks>Remove exchange attributes
* In ESM,Right click on the stores mailboxes folder in left pane, and run cleanup agent.
* That users mailbox will show up with a red x on it, right click on it>choose reconnect and select the user from AD.
* Try to Exmerge again and see if that works.

We don't have AV running on the File System  ... We do have Trend micro running on he Mail Stream and SMTP Mail.

David
Thanks for your Expert Input ... I really wish I could get the entie Dumpster with EXMERGE ..... But for some reason I can't ...... Unless when it creates the *.PST it runs thru the SMTP process and scans via the Trend SMTP scanner for some reason  or i corruption in the mailbox .

But I tried several mailboxes no Joy !
