I need a crash course on multi-threading with WinForms

I have not yet done muti-threading with my WinForms, and wonder if you can give me some advice.

Please give me general ideas about the challenges threading presents to WinForms, rather than a bunch of sample programs.  Please explain at a high level the kinds of problems it solves.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

there is a slight complication in wondows forms multi threading
read the following article and it will make the picture clearer - http://www.yoda.arachsys.com/csharp/threads/winforms.shtml

still multi-thereading can be achieved by the use of backgroundworker class if you have to update the UI from the thread and other threads can be created for database operations as we do normally.
