 getURL(http://www.google.com);

need to be getURL("http://www.google.com");
i.e. need to be in ""

then why its making your screen flicker no way to know unless we see what you're doing, is the site on a live public site?
does the slide show flicker when testing in flash or only when in browser?

one thing I have noticed it that when I click on the button I want to make link.  It says "current selection can not have action added to it."  Why is that? is there any way to make the button action addable?

Thank you for your help.

I don't think file has been attached.
I will try to attach the file again.
Since FLA file is not allow to be attached, I have changed the file to DOC file.
So if you have chance to take a look at my problem please change the extension from DOC to FLA before you take a look at it.

Thank you so much for any help.

you best bet due to your set up is to attach your code directly on the buttons

on (release) {
gotoAndPlay("wherever");
}

when i run your file something is popping up a google link. don't know where it is, but there's a typo in the url spitting up an error.l

it is giving me code error / is there any way to find out if this is using actionscript3.0?  if it is how do I convert them into version 2.0?

you don't know if its using AS2 or AS3? you've written the code.
if you go to the publish settings and select the tab you'll see if you're publishing for AS2 or AS3.
what error did you get, its alot more helpful saying i get this error rather than just I get an error.

Sorry about that actual error is as following and I guess I am using CS2  / I am very new at this and I did not design this flash file.  I just download from we where I pay to download and I don't know it this was designed with AS2 or AS3.  I am using CS3 version of Flash and I think it only has AS1 & 2 available.

**Error** Symbol=Symbol 12 copy 2, layer=Layer 2, frame=1:Line 1: Mouse events are permitted only for button instances
     on (release) {

Total ActionScript Errors: 1        Reported Errors: 1

There are 6 Menus on menu bar and they are set to Movie Clip and I have 3 Symbols for "home" contact us" "about us" and they are set to button.  Those buttons won't even let me input any action code and that's where it says "current selection cannot have actions applied to it"

Thank you so much for your help / I really appreciate it.

ok that error simply means you've put the code in the wrong place.

when code looks like this

on (release) {

}
it must go on the object
//generally bad practice with Object Oriented Programming principles but works

if you place that code on the timeline you'll get the error mentioned above.

to put code on the timeline it obviously just goes on a keyframe

but
buttoninstanceName.onRelease = function() {
//function code here
}

to attach directly to an object select the button
in the actions box it now says Actions - MovieClip - or something to that effect depending on what you selected instead of just Actions - then the code will be attached directly to that item and should kill that error message.

I am trying everything you said but it is just not working / maybe I am doing everything wrong.
I did not know just modifying simple flash banner is this hard.  I just simply want the menu to work.
I guess I am out of luck.

Thank you for your help anyway.

It is possible this was created in AS3/CS4 and I trying to modify in AS1/2 with CS3?  Would that cause this issue?  I just can't not create the link.

if it was a versioning problem it would tell you what you're doing in not supported in AS2 or AS3 etc.
seems its a case of you trying to run before you can walk.
if you actually have a contact.html page in the folder location of your swf file and html file the code i provided works.

mindtechuserAuthor Commented:
Maybe I am trying to run before I can walk, but since I have not design this flash I simply want to understand why this is not letting me modify where it should.  I have modified other flash files but I never had this issue.
