Intermittent Blackberry connection to Exchange 2003 server

I have one user that connects to my Exchange Server with a Blackberry. Just about every morning lately, the Blackberry stops receiving mail. About the only thing that seems to help is to restart firewall, but I doubt that is the problem.
What should I check/test to see if a BB is connecting?
I have heard that installing Blackberry Lite server app on Exchange server will help this, what all is involved in that?
