Building Server2008 on DL360 G4 network cards disabled why

Got a used DL360 G4 so I could test Server 2008 and SQL 2008 Using HP Smart Start 8.1 and Firmware maintenance 8.2 Can see all systems good then after server 2008 installs Network cards are in device manager as drivers loaded but not enough resources to run. - This can't be right. The NICs are NC7170 dual gig cards 2 of them one on MB and one  PCI. The HP site says all my hardware is complient with Windows Server 2008. The NIC flashes both green lights like it's working. I shut off the windows firewall. Naturally no networking got configured on the build.

Has anyone got some insight into my problem? Should I try a different NIC card. What one would work?

Mac,

Login in your HP insight management --> Agent control version. Make sure your supported Firmware is checked on green. I am pretty sure you have in compatible firmware with old hardware. Sometime, the old hardware does not support latest firmware (your case is 8.2). Here is what you have to do:
- Downgrade your firmware to 7.91.
- Login to Agent Control version and make sure support firmware is all green. That's it.

I have had the same issue with a couple G4 server didn't play well with 8.1 and 8.2 firmware.

Hi lnkevin,
Thanks for reply. It took awhile but I've got firmware 7.9 downloaded to cd..I will try to downgrade without reinstalling Server2008. I just recall getting all green indicated for NICs with 8.2 but when Server2008 is installed no drivers worked for the network adapters

I checked the HP specification for your hardware server. It does not mention supporting Windows 2008. Check the following link and find for keyword: "OS support". If this hardware does not support Windows 2008, you may have to contact HP to see if they have any updated drivers for it. Otherwise, stick an external NIC in and use that one instead.

Hp says it is supported in their matrix and provides full set of drivers for server 2008 on dl360 G4p:

Thanks for your link but it dated before server2008 release:
"DA-12166 - Worldwide - Version 29 - January 12, 2007"

Anyway thanks for your comments I want this link to stay up so I will accept them This way if others working with G4's and server2008 have problem with NIC card they can comment here
