Help recovering email...

Does anyone know if you can Exmerge data out of a backed up Exchange Store or an Exchange Store that isn't mounted? If so, how can this be done?  I need to recover email that is in a backup, hopefully without having to restore the backup.

    If you restore your backup to a recovery storage can exmerge it from there. You can't exmerge from a store that isn't mounted however.

    Information Store is available on the Exchange 2003 server but you do not want to mount it....well I understand your concern here. If I understand do not want to take risk of bring it online.
    But thats where Recovery Storage Groups come into picture. You can mount that info store in RSG without disturbing your existing mail flow and affecting users at all. But yes without MOUNTING the Information store on RSG you will not be able to recover mails from backup
