Dell D630 Monitor replacement.

Is there any way to replace the Dell 630 monitor with a higher resolution monitor (1280 x 1024)? I am told Dell says it is not possible. Can somebody tell me if it is possible and if so how can this be done? Thanks. Kumar Babu

I am afraid the Dell Rep was right. The quality of the resolution is set by the way the monitor connects to the motherboard. Higher resolutions have different connection types.
You can find out what the cost of a motherboard that supports higher monitor resoultion and a screen, but it will likely cost more than a new laptop!
External monitors would likely be able to support the resoltion you need, however it would not be a portable solution!
Here is a link for a list of Resolution / Connection types:
You would be looking for: SXGA, SXGA+, UXGA, or QXGA
Hope this helps!
Dell only offers 2 lcds for the D630 the WXGA(1280x800) and the WXGA+(1440x900).

Dear MPCP-Brian & Jamie toner,

I am told that one can replace the Dell520 1024 x 768 monitor with a higher resolution monitor. Why is this possible,  but not the one on the Dell630? Thanks.
I can not say this with 100% confidently, however I believe it will be because of the connection on the motherboard. Certain mointors require certain connections on the motherboard.
The D520 may not be a widesceen (if I remember right). And the connection may be compatible between standard and higher resolutions, however this may not be the case for the D630. It really all has to do with the hardware connections.
The D630 is widescreen(16:10) and the D520 is standard(4:3). While the actual lcd connector maybe the same the plastics the lcds sit in are completely different sizes and wont work on other models. If you have the WXGA screen on the D630 you can replace it with the WXGA+ to get a higher resolution.
