I had a VSTO word addin and a external application written in VB.NET, I want to call the VSTO addin from my VB.NET application to carry out some operation in word. Just like calling a VB Marcos from another external application. Is it possible???

I think you would have to have programmed in some remoting capabilities into the add-in for it to be callable from external applications.   Not sure on this, but that would probably be the best bet.

This seem like remote access to another cpu, my case here is both my external app and the addin is in the same cpu, how does this apply to my case??? could you briefly explain to mi? thanks.

Remoting is not just for different cpu but also for across application boundaries.  It is how you set up one application to be able to talk to another application while they are both running.  This is different than just referencing a dll to call its function.  With an application running, to be able to talk to it it has to have channels open so you can access its functions.  Sort of like a web service for an application.
