How do you import a catalog from tape

Every night I do a full file backup and also backup the catalog.

In HP Data Protector Express how do you import a catalog from a tape as I need to restore a folder asap but its not listed in the folder list when I browse. I assume if I import the catalog from the tape I need to restore from I will be able to see it.

Does importing a catalog overwrite the current catalog? Is importing differet from restoring a catalog?

If it's not appearing in the list of objects available to be restored (by going into Restore->Restore Sessions and examining the folders available) then you may not have backed it up in the first place. However, HP Data Protector is so buggy it would be worth cataloguing the tape just to be sure.

Assuming the tape isn't appearing in the lists of known media (Devices & Media->Media->Pools-><device>), you'll need to scan the tape first (Devices & Media->Devices, right click <device>, select Scan) then import the tape sessions (Devices & Media->Devices, right click <device>, select Import) and once this is finished do the same but import the catalog (Devices & Media->Devices, right click <device>, select Import Catalog).

Then have a look in Restore->Restore Sessions and see if it's appeared.

Thanks TapeDude.

Well yesterday evening I spent a few hours confused as to why the heck i couldnt see this critical folder a manager here was tellling me definitely was there last week but was gone now. You can probably guess the next part. the file path I had been given was wrong after all despite my asking a number of times was it definitely defintely right! Arragh!

Anyway, while on the subject  in DP Express that I have there isnt anywhere an Import Catalog command. However, I see it is import media and that imports the catalog also.

Ah, managers... Don't they make life exciting?

Re: Differences between "import catalog" & "import media" - looks like a cosmetic difference between the Express and Enterprise (which is what I'm familiar with) versions
