i want to add it as vxdg -g oradg adddisk Disk2=Disk_18

It is not letting me add Disk_18 as Disk2, which means Disk2 is still in the configuration reserved by veritas.

I want veritas to release that.

That because your new disk must be  initialize before that operation

then you can use  this command :   vxdiskadm

Select menu item  5 (Replace a failed or removed disk) from the  vxdiskadm main menu.

Select an operation to perform: 5

Replace a failed or removed disk
Menu: VolumeManager/Disk/ReplaceDisk
Use this menu operation to specify a replacement disk for a disk
that you removed with the "Remove a disk for replacement" menu
operation, or that failed during use.  You will be prompted for
a disk name to replace and a disk device to use as a replacement.
You can choose an uninitialized disk, in which case the disk will
be initialized, or you can choose a disk that you have already
initialized using the Add or initialize a disk menu operation.

Select a removed or failed disk [<disk>,list,q,?] list

Disk group: rootdg

DM NAME         DEVICE       TYPE     PRIVLEN  PUBLEN   STATE

Disk group: oradg

DM NAME         DEVICE       TYPE     PRIVLEN  PUBLEN   STATE

dm Disk2        -            -        -        -        REMOVED

Select a removed or failed disk [<disk>,list,q,?] Disk2
VxVM  ERROR V-5-2-1985 No devices are available as replacements for Disk2.

Hello,

you can try that

vxdg -k -g <group> adddisk <disk>=<device>

-k = forces vxvm to take media name of the failed disk & assign it to the new disk

then for you

vxdg -k -g oradg adddisk Disk2=Disk_18

I hope that help
