HP 4000 Printer

I have a HP 4000 that works fine until the paper tray gets down to the last few pages. Then it miss feeds. It happens before the fuser. The page gets turned crooked and comes out mangled. I tried replacing the , paper tray, Tray one/MP assembly, registration assembly, paper feed assembly. Separated the printer from the tray assembly and cleaned it all out. It still does it. No paper in the sensor area either. Any ideas?

It works fine until there are only a few pages left in the tray. Say 5 or 6 pages left, then the problem occurs. There are many printers of this model in the facility, around 100,  they all use the same paper, so the paper can't be the issue.
that was not my question : are you using the correct paper ?  and fan it? check on the HP site what paper is recommended for your printer, or the manual
