How to allow certain users access to website (IIS)?

Hi Experts

I've got a website currently hosted on an IIS 5.0 server. Is there a way of restricting external users who can access the website because at the moment all anoymous people can get to it. Perhaps a way to allow a specific group in AD access?

Thanks in advance

Hello Bladey001,

in IIS Manager untick anonymous access and tick integrated windows authentication, on the properties > directory security tab of the default website (or thewebsite in question)

No AD security is fine just change the ACL on the wwwroot folder for the group you want to allow access to :)

Is the server under AD or stand alone server ?

Based on the difference you can get things sorted out...

Cheers PeteLong. Just a quick side question, if the website is published to the internet then when users try accessing it from external source i.e. home etc will they just get a login prompt or something then?

FAO servoadmin

The server is part of our domain and under AD

Please disable the annymous access and give permissions to the site to the specific group to access and their logins would work fine...

Please refer the below URL for better understanding...

You may also install an inexpensive program called IISPassword.  I have used it in the past and it will require the users to supply a username and password in order to access the site.
