Backlight problems with Fujitsu laptop

I have a fujitsu laptop where the bulb is not coming on and therefore can't see an image on the screen unless a light is shining on it.  I hooked up a known working bulb to see if it was the bulb or inverter that's causing the problem but even with the working bulb it would still not come on.  My first thoughts are that the inverter has gone and needs replacing.  I have just bought a new inverter and still getting the same results.

What could be the cause of this as the new inverter definately works on another machine and the bulb is good too.

contrast? brightness? have you checked those? maybe lame, but might happen.

The LCD cable that carries the power as well as the video signal may be compromised, or the connection or controller on the motherboard that sends power to the inverter may be the issue.
Have you reseated the lcd cable connection on the motherboard

Yes reseated the cable on motherboard and inverter but still the same.  Image comes on the screen but the bulb doesn't come on.  Was thinking it was the cable but not sure.

Contrast brightness levels are fine also

Thanks that was what i was afraid of.
It could still be the cable but when coupled with the fact that there is an image on the screen and the inverter has been replaced, I'd think motherboard as well.
Have you tried using an external monitor, at least the laptop could still be used in this manner.
