Backup Exec 12 Remote Agent Service hangs at Starting, MAPI last item in log

On a network with five servers with Backup exec remote agents on it, one of the servers will not start the agent service.  Backup exec 12, server 2003.  The service hangs at "starting" and will not actually start.

Have removed and cleaned up agent, re-installed, no help.

Used logging option and SGmon util from Symantec, both indiate that the last thing attempted was "calling MAPI initialize"

Anyone have an idea, as i am out of them.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Not sure, but I would check the Mail account if you are trying to send any kind of alerts, since that is the only MAPI connection I can think it would be looking for.

I hope this helps !

okay, it turns out that as long as an alternate email email client listed as the default in the "programs" section of Internet Explorer, it won't load -- change it to outlook, it's happy.
