when download address book received error (0X8004010F)

I have read all of the posts that involve the error "(0X8004010F)" and they don't quite fit or at least they didn't solve the problem.  We did an exchange migration from 2K3 to 2K3 because of a merger.  Both sites had a single exchange server but we migrated them to a child domain then I went through a process to remove the first exchange server in a site.  I followed the recomended MS process for removing the first server in the site and it went smoothly.  I read a post that one person mentioned their address list in the download address list section has a different name than the one in the SM.  I also have that issue.  physical site one outlook has one name, the MS has another and the physical site number two has a third name.  Is there a way in Outlook to change the name of what you are trying to download.  My Outlook says Global Address List and the MS says Default Global Address List.  Am I barking up the wrong tree?

have you rehome the office address book and change the server that is responsible for generating the offline address list? have your public folder migrated accross correctly?

The most likely is the public folder as the offline address is located at that place..

i mgiht be wrong but please advise

I did follow the steps in the KB you have listed.  When I double check the public folders by right clicking public folders in ESM and choosing properties it shows the public folders store listed on each of the three existing servers.  2 servers that have mail accounts and our webmail server.

When I drill down to the offline address list it shows the Default Offline Address List as being one of the servers that is still active.  To clarify the address list is on a server that has mailbox accounts on it and those accounts are also having issues.  Its my belief is that all accounts have the same problem.
Okay..
let's try some hunting ..
goto system manager/servers/<servername>/first storage group/public folder store/public folders

can you see OAB Version 2,3a and 4?

Also you should see another "office address book- <whatever>"

can you see what is the size for all of them?

if the OAB v2,3a,4 is 0kb... then the replication is not been done properly..
Under public folders I do not have a folder OAB Version 2, 3a and 4.  I have three list of OAB each one with something differnet trailing.  Two have a size of zero and one has a size of 55KB and lists 1 item.
maybe thats your problem...
if you do not have OAB version2,3a and 4, it will not work

you have to recreate them

ok, I was able to add another offline address list.  It said it will not be created until the next store maintenance period so It will have to wait a day or two.  Thanks for all you help so far.
cool! remember to come back and close the case :)
I now have an OAB 2,3a and 4 entry.  But my Send\Receive Outlook sync still fails.
check in your public folder, doesnt it show there are anything there?

goto system manager/servers/<servername>/first storage group/public folder store/public folders

can you see OAB Version 2,3a and 4?

Also you should see another "office address book- <whatever>"

can you see what is the size for all of them?
In OAB 2, 3a and 4 the size of those folders is 512, 514 and 426.

I also have 4 offline address book entries.  Only one of those has any size listed.  Its listed at 55KB
did you try to redownload the whole offline address book?
goto send/receive/download address book

untick download changes only
make sure it is full
yep, did that and it still failed.
hmm.. i am quite running out of idea ..

have you try change from cache mode to non-cache mode then restart outlook, then change from non-cache mode to cache mode again then restart outlook then check the address book again?
I wasn't sure so I went ahead and gave it another shot.  Still fails.  I also turned cache mode off and I am able to see new entries but still fails on the sync.

I ended up calling MS to solve this issue.  We were pretty close.  Once I created the 2 3a and 4 (earlier in the ticket) I had to go to the properties of those folders and add all servers in the org (including my OWA server, not sure this was necasary) in the replication tab.  Once I did that I was able to download my address book without issue.
