Need a simple form that inserts a record to a database

For some reason I can not find a decent example of a simple form with a couple text boxes and a submit button that will add a record to my SQL database.  I have played with gridview and formview it appears you have to hit insert before you can enter data in these...this is not what I'm looking for.  I've got the Data Souce setup I can add the text boxes just not sure how I make the submit button insert the record into the database.  Thanks
