Laptop Drive Can Only access recovery partition

My son's laptop screen defective. Need to recover homework from drive. Can see D: partition (Recovery) , but not C: Partition files. In the Safely Remove Hardware dialog, both are visible.

How can I see the files to copy My Documents Folder ?

Source drive is Vista Home- my laptop is Vista Ultimate

The partition is hidden as it is probably password protected (yay vista) you can try running as an admin ( rt click on the  drive and select run as admin). if that does not help try getting some inexpensive data recovery software and scan it from the host pc and save it somewhere other than the partition you are scanning. you should be able everything.

In following rtstiehl's suggestion, you may need to use a data recovery program to find your files.

There are a number of these programs on the web for free or for a fee.

If you would like to see what you can recover, please download and run the demo version of Recover My Files from this website:

http://www.recovermyfiles.com/data-recovery-software-download.php

I recommend running the Complete Format Recover on the "Physical" drive (your options will be 0,1, or 2).  And use the pre-selected file types.  This search will return all files on your drive.

If the files you are missing are listed, then please purchase the software by using the "Buy Online" button on the toolbar.  You will then be able to save your search results.
