Powerpoint 2007 Slow

Just reinstalled OS on a client HP laptop, and installed Office 2007. The laptop has dual-core processor, and 1GB Ram. It shouldn't be taking over 5 min to open a 4MB Powerpoint.

Any ideas why it is so slow, and what can we do to make it faster?

No, it shouldn't take that long to opne a PP. Things you can try:
Go to Power point options\ Go to Resources
Select Run Micorosft Office Diagnostics
Click Daiognose
This process may take up to 15 minutes

You might also check for viruses and malware. even though you just installed the OS.
Are you have trouble in other apps as well?

Thanks for your response. I ran the diagnostic, and it said it actually caught something and automatically fixed it. I also read an article about print drivers causing slowness. I tried adding a Microsoft Certified Printer driver, but it is still very slow.

Outlook 2007 also feels kind of slow, but nothing comparing to this.
Yes, I have seen the print driver issue as well. Is it just one Powere point that is slow to open or is it all or multiple files? How are you saving the file - is is .pptx or .ppt? If it is a .pptx, you might try a Save As and go back to ppt just to see if it makes a difference for now. You might also try to copy slides into new file to see if maybe the original file is corrupt.
Its all of the Powerpoints that we used in Office 2003. We recently upgraded, so they are all .ppt.

For the printer driver, I'd try the one listed here: http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00952.htm

Just to make sure.

It will often take a few seconds to open a PPT file in 2007, depending what's in it. But 5 minutes is unacceptable, yes, even for a machine with only 1G RAM. (If you can put in 2, I suspect that would help.)

You have installed SP1 for Office 2007, right?

What add-ins do you see listed in Office Button | PPT Options | Add-ins?

Are you opening the files from the harddrive, or are they on a network folder?
As a matter of fact, that's the exact test printer driver that I used. I guess, I can try upgrading to 2 GB, however, it is 5 other machines with the same behavior. The machines are identical HP laptops, all have the same GHOST image.

I will check for the SP1 of Office 2007, and look through the options of PPT. Thanks for that advice.

Also, these are not located on a network folder, these are located on the Desktop of each laptop.
