Outlook 2007 Loses Connection with Exchange 2007
I am using Outlook 2007 accessing a shared Exchange 2007 Sever and my Outlook keeps locking up. My OS is Vista Ultimate 32-bit. After resuming from sleep mode Outlook fails to download or send e-mail messages. During this time, in the lower left-hand corner of Outlook the message says Trying to connect to Microsoft Exchange. I have to quit Outlook and then kill the Outlook process using Task Manager in order to start up Outlook again. When I do Outlook will immediately connect to the server and start downloading messages. This happens whenever my computer goes into sleep mode. I think the duration of sleep mode is related. My host is unable to help me with this problem.

This was definitely on the right track, it's just that it opened a huge can of worms for me. I didn't have the Hybrid Sleep option in Vista and after researching this discovered I needed to set my BIOS to ACPI Suspend Type S3 (suspend to RAM) to enable that option. The problem was, once I enabled S3 my computer would not wake up from sleep mode. I had to clear my CMOS to get my computer to start up again. My m-board is a Gigabyte 965P-DS3. After loading the latest BIOS, Intel chipset drivers and NVIDIA display drivers I was able to get sleep in S3 mode to work correctly.
This all also seemed to fix my original problem. When I resume from sleep Outlook no longer hangs trying to reconnect to my Exchange server.
Another benefit to getting S3 working is the power savings I will get during sleep mode.
Thanks!
