Okay folks, tried the drive using server backup and no joy. In the end we swapped another drive in and that worked straight away. So it was a second (refurbed) drive that failed as well.

We have a backup server with a Compaq DLT7000 tape drive. Recently the drive failed, and we have just had a new replacement fitted by Compaq. However, when we now try to format a tape in the drive we are getting an error which says &quot;Unrecoverable Data Error&quot; - this is using fresh tapes, straight out the box.<br />

Computer data storage, often called storage or memory, is a technology consisting of computer components and recording media used to retain digital data. In addition to local storage devices like CD and DVD readers, hard drives and flash drives, solid state drives can hold enormous amounts of data in a very small device.
