When trying to format new drive we get UNRECOVERABLE DATA ERROR

Okay guys - 500 pointer.

We have a backup server with a Compaq DLT7000 tape drive. Recently the drive failed, and we have just had a new replacement fitted by Compaq. However, when we now try to format a tape in the drive we are getting an error which says "Unrecoverable Data Error" - this is using fresh tapes, straight out the box.

Have I missed something, or is the new drive fubbared as well?

We are using ArcServe v9.0 - we reinstalled the drivers when the new drive was attached, but did not reinstall ArcServe (not really an option).

Nope, haven't tried that - I will try that possible on monday, as that could be something.
Okay folks, tried the drive using server backup and no joy. In the end we swapped another drive in and that worked straight away. So it was a second (refurbed) drive that failed as well.
I've awarded the points anyway as, although they didn't provide the full solution, they did help in other ways.

Many thanks!
