not sure what happened. but i did bootup and F8 a few times and i can get in using the my account.
This laptop has an adminsitrator password with it. I belwieve this is why
net user account *
did not work.
I was trying to reset the password for other accounts on it that do have admin right. Is there a way to do it other than building a boot up CD? Building a booutup CD for win 2000 does not seem to be easy.

I also saw one option on the BIOS where you can change the admin password. I wonder if tht works. I did not try it because i do not want to change that one.
The bios pw and the windows pw are not related in any way.
Use the famous nordahl boot cd to blank the administrator's pw. The only thing you need is the option of booting from CD but as I understood, you have full access to the bios options.
Download and burn the .iso file here (very easy actually): http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html

I am not familiar with CD burning. can you explain step by step how to get this boot disk.

I downloaded the zip file to a PC. i inserted a blank CD-RW into the PC. Now what do i do.
Do i burn the CD using some software then copy the zip over and unzip the files and then i have a boot disk?

You can also try ERD commander. It will allow you to boot from CD and into your system without requiring any administrator password. You can then reset the administrator account using LockSmith.

You'll also need to create a bootable CD.

You may download a 30 day free trial here:

Hope that helps
