Ipod sync

How is a sync performed with the ipod and a new computer so that the content on the ipod is not erased from the ipod and added to the new computer?

Just connect your ipod up.  Since it is a new computer, Itunes will ask you how you want to proceed.

AB_One,

If the ipod has info doing just the steps above will erase the songs.  You need to move the library from your old computer to the new one or at least set up the same library on the new computer.  I can provide details if you need but wanted to post this quick to save you from erasing your files.

Let me know if you have any questions or need more information.

AB_One,

By the way ... if you need details I will need to know your OS.

There's a program, TouchCopy, that will move the music from the IPod to iTunes library, however it's no free
http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/
The link I provided it's for a free program that will download the music from your IPod but yu'll need to add that music to ITunes library.
Connect you IPod, CLOSE ITunes, before it makes any changes, open IDump, select everything, do a back up.  Disconect the IPod, open ITunes, from the menu Add Folder, select the folder that contains the numbered folders. connect your IPod, it will sincronize erasing the IPod and then will load the new library.
The only problem I see here is that you will end up with numbered folders, 01,02,03, etc.  and the structure probably is not what you like, also you can let Itunes to consolidate the library, that way you'll have all of your music organized by ITunes.
There are lots of programs to copy music FROM and iPod and into iTunes.

Some are FREE and some are commercial.

If all you want are the music and video files, stick with a FREE program like Yamipod - http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/

IF you need to recover contacts, calendars and more, TouchCopy is your only man.
