LAPTOP WON'T POWER UP

I have a Dell XPS M1710 Model No:  PP05XB and it wouldn't boot up so I replaced the battery, now when I put in the new battery in the battery light was flashing so I let it charge for a few hours. Now when I try to power up it doesn't do anything. The power light goes on for about 10 seconds than back to a flashing battery light. I have reset the hard drive. I am not sure what to do next before I trash it?

Does this occur with AC power applied (battery inserted or not)?
If so, you may very well have a failed piece of hardware as mentioned above.
I'm assuming that you don't get any type of POST beeps.
Also don't trash it....you can possibly part it out and sell on ebay rather than throwing it away...or send it to me! :)

Anyway as stated you may try replacing the ram.  Also you wont need the hard drive or optical drive to make the machine turn on.  Also you wont need the battery to turn on.
so try those things listed above.
A solution that helped a friend of mine with the same problem was to unplug the power and take the battery out and leave it to sit for at least an hour but you may need to wait anywhere up to 24hrs. Then plug it all back in and try turning it on again. What this does is ensure every little battery in the laptop is discharged so that the ram can be properly reset and so that the bios is also reset - or something like this. Anyways, it worked for my mates laptop. Just remember, try leaving it for an hour with no power and if that doesn't work leave it for longer and try again.

All the best!
as listed above, if you are comfortable taking it apart, you can take out the battery for the bios and leave it for a while and allow the bios to reset itself

when you put it back together
Harddrive first
Ram
bios battery
normal cell battery
power adapter
boot
well when putting it back together you dont need the hard drive to power it up (make it turn on...)...so yes you can put the drive back...but if the drive is causing the issue (most likely not...) leaving it out will give you the CLEANEST form of troubleshooting for a first time basis.  No need to have it in other than to make sure it boots to the OS.
