Laptop beeps when I plug charger in?

When I finally decided I was sick of Vista and put XP on instead, I just kept the charger in for obvious reasons (save the battery dying half-way through installation). When everything was set up and running I unplugged the charger (to keep the battery alive) and got what sounded like a BIOS system beep. I've looked all over the internet and all of the solutions I have found have not worked:
 - Turning off "Beep" in Device Manager
 - Setting the "beep" setting in the registry to "no"
 - And there are no options for turning off alarms or any beeps in the BIOS

And yet the beep still persists. As I will be using this laptop in quiet places (classes, library, etc.) I'd rather not have this fairly loud beep going off when the battery runs low and I plug the charger in.

Thanks in advance,
