Blackberry with Exchange 2003

Hi,

We have a blackberry phone which came with the Exchange Enterprise software. We have installed the enterprise software on the mail server, but unable to proceed from there on how to configure the blackberry to sync with exchange.

It is easy to configure the windows mobile and iphone but Blackberry is a little confusing. If anyone can provide help on the same it would be highly appreciated.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

After installing the BES server on your Exchange server then open up the management console for the BES on the Exchange box and add a user accepting the default settings.  The user will then get an email in outlook with instructions.

By the way you also get one free complementary support call with the server.

Questions:

1) did you create the BESAdmin account as per instructions in the setup?  If not this must be done first prior to installation of the BES software.  Make sure that you have the permissions correct as BESAdmin needs send / recieve on behalf of the user.  Check online on the Research in Motion site for complete instructions.  (sorry don't have the link on my home pc)

2) if you followed step 1.  Then did you install the software under the BESAdmin account.  If not remove and install under that account.

Finally, providing you performed both above steps, set up the account on the Blackberry settings --> advanced --> enterprise activation.  Set the password for this step by right click --> set activation password in the BES Manager.  Use something simple like pas as typing on the Blackberry device (IMHO) sucks.  Press the Blackberry scroll button and select activate after all information on the device is correct.  If this doesn't work on the users desktop install the BES software and setup for synchronizing to the Exchange.  In some instances this has corrected issues and caused everything to work.  In the end on the BES Manager you should see the user name / pin for the BB device / running.  If running is not there and initializing is something is incorrect, so retrace your steps and verify settings.

scottoleson is absolutely correct in implying the instruction must be followed exactly to have BES work, it is VERY picky.  So if you just put in the CD and ran setup you may have to start over.

Hi,

We had performed the pre-installation steps as per the given guide but the user is also showing ok. The Blackberry Manager on the server is showing fine but unable to move from there. The steps on the server seems to be fine but from there unable to proceed. I am sure the setup on the server is perfectly correct.

I will still check all the steps on the server tonight, and confirm if anything missing.

Hi

Now there is an added issue. I had added the user and was showing the user ok, but when I was unable to sync it I thought of deleting the user and adding him again. The issue is that now whenever I try to add the user, it shows the error Cannot add, due to license restriction, but when adding only for one user, it should at least let me add one user. You can check the error on the Picture below.

check and make sure that the user is not listed under the "users pending delete" tab.  also under the blackberry domain check the global tab --> account --> license management.  This will tell you how many cal's are available.
