asked on

will a 1gbit switch speed be downgraded if a 100mbit switch is connected to it?

I have a 100mbit switch connected to a 1gbit switch but will our whole network operate at 100mbit because of this one switch?

Is there a 1Gbit bus line that all 16 ports share or each port is independent and the bus line bandwidth runs at 16gbits+?

Any two device's plugged into the 1gb switch will communicate at 1gb. if a device plugged into the 1gb switch is communicating to a device plugged into the 100mb swicth the communication will automatically reduce to the slowest connected device.

Networking hardware includes the physical devices facilitating the use of a computer network. Typically, networking hardware includes gateways, routers, network bridges, modems, wireless access points, networking cables, line drivers, switches, hubs, and repeaters. But it also includes hybrid network devices such as multilayer switches, protocol converters, bridge routers, proxy servers, firewalls, network address translators, multiplexers, network interface controllers, wireless network interface controllers, ISDN terminal adapters and other related hardware.
