Moving Public Folder Store to new Public Folder Database
We would like to move out public folder store to an external drive for temporary reasons, but the PF grew to 800GB when importing the PST on the Exch2007 migration. I know the data in those PFs is no more than 2GB, but the online defrag doesn't shrink anything. Anyone know the best way to create a new public folder database and move the PFs into that database?
Thanks,

what is in your public folder at the moment?
the simpliest way would be export them into pst files, and delete public folder and reimport them.
further, you require to recreate all system folder

This all originated from taking two seperate domains and exchange servers into a new central domain with two new exchange servers. The public folders were imported from PST and must have caused this file size situation.
The folders are being replicated to the second Exchange server which does not show this same size issue. That being the case, what else could we do with those being replicated? Sorry for the obvious questions, but after a 14 hour day I'm thinking twice about everything before taking action, especially when it comes to Exch2007

what is the original size of the public folders?
if the original size is around the size .. you won't able to compact the size .....
you will only able to cut the disk space IF you have remove the folders..
and when you'are talking about PSt files, issit the PST of the public folder? or all user's PST?

The public folder original size was about 2GB. The size jumped to 800 after importing from PST from exporting the public folders on the original exchange server and replication to a second exchange server following the migration.
okay...
800GB of edb stm file or include the log file?
it is kind of weird ....
seriously.. i will try offline defragment..
Offline defragment can be done on a non-exchange machine..

Offline defrag too care of the problem. I turned off the replication and let it remove the data first.

I would much rather create a new database and move the public folders into the new database and remove the original database. Would that be a possible solution as well?
