setup vpn connections

we have installed a new dlink DIR 130 vpn router on our static IP internet connection, we got connected to internet using this router, but when I try to create a VPN profile with the information on me the router does not create a profile, when we click on save settings it just does nothing.

The vpn line was active until last week, urgent help required.......

we are using sbs 2003 for our AD.

Are you attempting to create an IPSEC or PPTP/L2TP vpn server?

I use the DIR-130 all the time and have not experienced this problem. Did you check the ENABLE check box on the profile screen?

Just a thought, try adding the IP address of the router to your trusted sites list in  your browser, or use an alternate browser. I use Firefox with my DLink devices and fewer issues than with IE.

the local net/mask field should reference your scope/ip4

for example scope of 192.168.0.0 subnet 255.255.255.0 has 256 hosts
this would be entered as  192.168.0.0/24    on the dir-130

see http://public.pacbell.net/dedicated/cidr.html for more info on the /24

Thanks for your help on that, now have created all the profiles, have one more questions i.e. we are running netgear fvs 318 router at other offices and the VPN tunnels are already created on them and were operational all this time prior to getting our new router.

Is it going to be an issue connecting netgear with dlink routers???

Routers

A router is a networking device that forwards data packets between computer networks. Routers perform the "traffic directing" functions on the Internet. The most familiar type of routers are home and small office cable or DSL routers that simply pass data, such as web pages, email, IM, and videos between computers and the Internet. More sophisticated routers, such as enterprise routers, connect large business or ISP networks up to the powerful core routers that forward data at high speed along the optical fiber lines of the Internet backbone. Though routers are typically dedicated hardware devices, use of software-based routers has grown increasingly common.
