XP SP3 Shutdown Problem

I have a windows xp computer that is fully updated service packed and virus protected.  Everytime i shutdown or restart the computer i receive the error message that GDI+ has failed to close and i need to hit end now for the computer to shutdown.  there are no other symptoms and the computer runs fine otherwise i just have to wait to hit end program to turn the computer off.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

GDI is responsible for graphics within the Windows environment. I would first suggest you try running "chkdsk c: /f" in a command terminal. You will need to reboot once entering that command so make sure to save all your stuff first.

If that comes back OK try updating your graphics drivers. There may be a problem with them not releasing the GDI back to the Kernal correctly.

Ran the chkdsk and reinstalled the latest nvidia graphics drivers and still have the same error message.  There have been no hardware changes when the error occurred it just started happening 2 weeks ago out of the blue.  Is there anyway to uninstall all GDI related programs and reinstall them?

Will try running the repair install on Mon night and will report back on the status of the issue.

Solution worked great was trying to avoid a repair install but it was painless and was a lot quicker than the time i spent trying to find an answer online.

thanks
