Tape drive goes offline after a few backups
I have problems with the travan 20/40 (STT3401A) tape drives after a few successful backups the drive becomes offline only a reboot helps

Have you tried to update drivers, not only for the tape drive itself, but also for the interface (SCSI, SATA)?
1) Is it overheating ?
2) Does it need cleaning ?
3) Anything in the event logs ?
4) Anything in the tape backup logs ?

it is not over heating, does not need cleaning, I have updated the drivers still the same once I reboot the server it will run ok for a few times
